Brandon An amazing Horror movie!! Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/05/23 Full Review Blu B Pay Attention Hollywood. THIS is when a remake is warranted. The original isn't bad at all but has a lot of issues. This fixes literally every issue the original had. gone is the repetitive introduction structure and one by one introduction along with the out of order story telling. Instead we stay firmly in the childhood years and it's so much more focused and smooth. The editing is really good here and easily the biggest fix. It still has some trouble linking stories like Mike and Stan's backstories but it does a much better job with the group as a whole and the others by bunching them together for the most part. It merges dark humor and horror very well together. The music is good and well used but a bit on the generic side. I wish it was more distinct and is defintely the weakest part here. Everything else is top notch. The special effects are very well done, the direction is very sharp, and the jump scares for the most part are very well executed and original save for a handful. Pennywise in this is WAY better and balances much more being menacing and funny/cheesy at the same time. He's way scarier in this. The kids are way better in this also overall. I really can't say one of them just blended in. Each had a backstory, some stronger than others but they had really good chemistry and the dialouge given is really good. In terms of changes made from the 90' version, this feels like it's doing it's own thing and is a fresh take on the source material. Besides the opening scene and the general setting there really isn't anything here that I can point to and say I feel like that is a direct copy or feels like the original did better. This also obviously has much higher production and big screen treatment than the TV one did. The other minor issues is I don't think making the bullies into psychopaths basically and some of the goofy faces Pennywise makes can be a bit too weird. It also is obviousy only chapter one of two but it feels like it could just end right here and nothing is lost as well. A testament to how well this one is made. All Time Classic.
