Use to do Friday to Friday rentals and loved having the weekend after coming home to recuperate and get mentally ready for catching up at work on Monday. We use to always rent a different house too, that is, until we found the perfect one this year. Saturday it is unless the owner changes his check-in day.

I guess I’m weird in the fact that I never rent the same house twice.
No, you're not weird. Based on a limited sample, I'd say 1/3 of the renters are like you.
However, most aren't searching for the ideal house. They just like the idea of experiencing something different.
People who take the same house every year like the familiarity with the house and how things work. They enjoy the small changes and play "what's new this year?"
The problem with an "ideal" house is that rental houses suffer a huge amount of wear and tear every year, so the house next year may look older and more worn than it did this year and would no longer be the ideal house. Or a less-than-ideal house might have been fixed up and would be your ideal house if you rented it again.

I prefer Sunday check in and am more than happy to take an extra day off work.
I also have never rented the same house twice in the 20ish years I've been coming down. I'm not looking for the perfect house or even a change but I typically book very last minute so there are fewer options.

any check in day is okay with me. The trouble I see with Sundays is my SIL would try to leave the rental much earlier to get home Sunday night. I dont think he would take Monday off. I am lucky no one complained about the two weekends off in a row because as we know that is the rental period except for maybe Fri-Fri rentals. Has anyone chosen Fri-Fri rentals? maybe its mostly people with shorter drive distances. I will not rent above Southern Shores in the summer because of the traffic.

When my husband and I first started dating in the mid-2000s we always booked Friday rentals on Chincoteague Island, VA. It was great! We had a whole weekend away and then another whole weekend to get back into the groove of normal life before going back to work on Monday.

We've yet to rent the same house twice. We've never found the "perfect house". There was one house that we like a lot. New owners purchased it and the rates went up by 50%. It wasn't worth it to us anymore. We've found house we like more for less.
Up until this year we always went right before Labor day. Now that the kids are getting older and some of our group are starting college we need to go earlier in the season. So it's a bit of a sticker shock when we're used to paying such low prices for more than 15 years. So now our choices are pay more than double what we usually pay, or get houses that aren't as nice.

Enjoy! We haven't been down there in 4 years and I'm itching to get back. Fried oysters, beer and the sunset over the channel is good for the soul.
As an FYI, I read the other day that the candy shop, Pony Tails, is closing indefinitely at the end of the month. If you like taffy, time to stock up!

We prefer Sundays. We usually leave a day early and spend the night in Chesapaeake, so either way we would need to add on a day. When the kids were little we went the week before Labor Day so we had the Monday off and didn't need to take off an extra day.

We try to do Sunday just for that reason, traffic. Heading down in 3 weeks, on Sunday. The only issue I've seen is the grocery stores get bombed Saturday night, so they might be a little lean on some items. Plus not having to pack on Friday night is also a plus.
